DERAWAN ISLAND : BORNEO’S LITTLE SECRET

This island is the third-largest island in the world and the largest in Asia. Borneo itself home to one of the oldest rainforests in the world. Just off the coast of East Borneo, there are island tempts with white beaches, a turquoise sea and another hidden paradise - the world under water with dazzling coral reefs and it´s inhabitants, and perfect place to get lost in nature and find yourself, called Derawan Island.

Perched on Borneo’s East Coast in the Celebes Sea, the Derawan Island may not as famous as other destinations in Indonesia but still have a lot to offer. Bright colours of its surrounding wildlife, including all sorts of species of fish you can think of indicates it’s untouched beauty. Derawan Island consist of several island: Derawan, Kakaban, Maratua, Gusung, and sangalaki. One of the best trips in Derawan Island is to visit the jellyfish lake in Kakaban Island. A UNESCO heritage site, here you can swim with stingless jellyfish like which some you can only find on Palau Island, Micronesia. While Kakaban Island is best known as the home of stingless jellyfish, Sangalaki is famous for its manta rays and sea turtles. You can watch turtles laying their eggs and see baby turtles getting ready to be released back into the sea. And if you have enough guts, you can also try to jump to 4 meters depth of a natural pond as deep as 15 meters in Haji Mangku. Watch how the lagoon’s almost transparent water perfectly complements the surrounding mangrove forest.
